Governor's Honors Academy

Keychains that I made for each member of my PD group

I loved being a counselor at Governor's Honors Academy! GHA is a nine-day leadership camp at Southern University all about teaching 50 of the state's brightest high school kids how to be leaders. It is a life-changing experience both as a participant and as a counselor.
GHA includes Personal Development Groups where each counselor plans a 30-60 minute lesson with their group based around that group's theme. We were Tait's World Travelers, and our groups were focused on learning about different world cultures and expanding our perspective.
GHA also includes outings to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, numerous speakers, a Politics Panel as well as a Religion Panel (which I had the privilege of planning), and the infamous "Transcendence Day" that you have to experience to understand.
Being a counselor at GHA gave me opportunities to strengthen my leadership, creativity, teaching skills, enthusiasm, flexibility, and skills working with youth. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I will always be grateful to have been involved in Governor's Honors Academy.
