ABOUT ME
While attending SUCCESS Academy, a program that allowed me to graduate high school with an Associate's Degree from SUU, I was invited to attend Governor's Honors Academy at Southern Utah University. After that experience, I knew SUU was the place for me.
I deferred my scholarship while I served a mission for the LDS Church in the Mexico City North Mission. I was so pleased to continue learning Spanish as I taught and learned from the people where I served. Spanish has continued to bring me joy and to be useful to me.
Upon my return, I began working at Renewed Hope Ranch, an in-patient treatment facility for teenage girls. I have never loved a job so much! I knew that I could never go back to a mundane job, but had to spend my time doing meaningful work with people I cared about.
I had the privilege to be selected as a counselor for Governor's
Honors Academy, and got to be apart of the program that helped me
discover my love for Southern Utah University!
I will graduate this May with a Bachelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies
(emphasis: Art and Psychology). My plan has always been to become an
art therapist, but I recently discovered the importance of understanding
how the brain works, and plan to pursue a PhD in psychology, hopefully
researching the treatment of childhood trauma, especially sexual abuse.
This will happen in the more distant future, as my near future plans include
raising the baby boy that we are expecting in July of this year.
SUU has been full of wonderful experiences in the Honors Program and as a
Service Leader, where I have worked to get SAIL (the Student Alliance of
Interfaith Leaders) off the ground here on a predominantly LDS campus.
Please visit the Community Engagement Page on this site to learn more about
SAIL.
My husband, Edgar, will soon begin the process of applying to optometry school.
We are so excited to see where life takes us!
